MVGR College of Engineering Concludes Faculty Training Program on Psychological Aptitude with Inauguration of Obstacle Training Center

Date: 09.05.2025

MVGR College of Engineering successfully concluded its 5-Day Faculty Training Program on Psychological Aptitude Assessment for Defense-Oriented Leadership Training on May 9th, 2025, with a vibrant valedictory function and the inauguration of an Obstacle Training Center on campus.

The training program, held from May 5th to 9th, brought together 25 faculty members from various departments. These participants underwent a comprehensive training experience led by Commodore Manoj Bhuraria (Retd.), former President of the Indian Navy's Services Selection Board (SSB) and a seasoned expert in defense psychological assessments and leadership training.

Throughout the program, the resource person delivered intensive sessions covering the entire process of SSB assessment, including psychological testing techniques such as TAT, WAT, SRT, and SDT, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, and structured interviews. A special focus was placed on leadership development and management principles, aiming to equip faculty with the skills needed to recognize and mentor Officer-Like Qualities (OLQs) in students.

Participants were also engaged in mock interview sessions and live demonstrations, which made the training highly interactive and practice-oriented. On the final day, an assessment was conducted to evaluate the faculty members’ understanding and readiness to mentor students for defense and leadership roles.

The valedictory session was marked by reflections from faculty participants, who appreciated the practical insights, clarity, and engaging methodology adopted by the resource person. Principal Dr. R. Ramesh and Vice-Principal Dr. YMC Sekhar commended the dedication of the faculty and reiterated the institution’s commitment to grooming future leaders through structured training and mentorship.

A major highlight of the closing ceremony was the inauguration of the newly established Obstacle Training Center, a facility conceptualized and guided by Commodore Manoj Bhuraria and implemented under the leadership of the Director of MVGR College. This center is designed to simulate real-world physical tasks commonly used in SSB and defense training modules, thus providing students with hands-on exposure to obstacle-based leadership and physical endurance challenges.

This dual milestone—completing the Faculty Development Program and launching the Obstacle Training Center—reflects MVGR’s strategic vision to integrate defense-inspired leadership education into mainstream academic development, promoting values of discipline, courage, and service.
