MVGRCE Women Empowerment Cell Conducts Youth Mental Health Workshop

The Women Empowerment Cell (WEC) of Maharaj Vijayaram Gajapathi Raj College of Engineering (MVGRCE) successfully organised a thought-provoking workshop titled “Thriving, Not Just Surviving: Youth Mental Health in Modern Times” on 19 December 2025. The programme aimed to create awareness about the importance of mental well-being among today’s youth and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by the Principal, Prof. Y. M. C. Sekhar, in the presence of the resource person Ms. Gladys Evangeline Raghupatruni, an experienced counselling psychologist currently serving at Sainik School, Korukonda, along with Asst. Prof. M. Sarah Kamala Kumari, WEC Coordinator, and other faculty members of the Women Empowerment Cell.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Y. M. C. Sekhar appreciated the initiative taken by the Women Empowerment Cell for selecting a highly relevant topic in the present-day context. He emphasised that challenges are an inevitable part of life, and maintaining a balanced mindset is essential rather than magnifying problems. He also highlighted that many individuals hesitate to express their emotions, which often leads to mental and emotional distress. Addressing contemporary issues, he pointed out how excessive mobile phone usage has reduced social interaction and weakened relationships, especially between students and their parents.
The core session was conducted by Ms. Gladys Evangeline Raghupatruni, who delivered an engaging and insightful talk on youth mental health. The session was highly interactive and focused on practical strategies to cope with stress, improve concentration, and build emotional resilience. She introduced students to simple yet effective techniques such as time management, mindfulness practices, and adopting a positive approach towards life’s challenges.
Around 150 students, including both boys and girls, actively participated in the workshop. Students openly shared their experiences and concerns, making the session lively and impactful. The interactive discussions enabled them to explore healthy ways to manage academic pressure and emotional challenges.
The workshop concluded on an encouraging and optimistic note, motivating students to prioritise their mental well-being and apply the stress-management and focus-enhancing techniques learned during the session in their daily lives. The event reaffirmed MVGRCE’s commitment to holistic student development, encompassing both academic excellence and emotional well-being.
